Directors’statement: "we went to the Sphinx and we filmed."

Through a collection of images and sounds related to the territory of “similar”, Speak in Tongues investigates language as a provision of the living beings to communicate with their own kind beyond words and beyond literal understanding.
Ordered as an archive of “excellent cases” and sketches on facsimile and copy, the audiovisuals produced for Speak in Tongues are gathered under the symbol of the "Sphinx", monument to enigma, an impassive and solemn sculpture that guards human knowledge.

As well as working on the set, ZAPRUDERfilmmakersgroup is involved in the design of ad hoc devices for watching their audiovisuals outside of cinemas. Since the start of the group’s stereoscopic production in 2005, which was released under the name of "Chamber Cinema", the idea of "sculpture of time" occurs in their work, a view overflowing the screen, placing itself face to face with the viewer.

Speak in Tongues was developed through two previous stages, on 18 and 19 January 2014, in Ferrara, curated by Galleries of Modern and Contemporary Art and on January 24 at Raum, curated by Xing for Art City Bologna 2014. The completed project will be shown for the first time on the occasion of the exhibition in Milan from 20 March to 3 April 2014 (opening 19 March 2014)in the spaces of the Marsèlleria.

ZAPRUDERfilmmakersgroup is an art-film venture founded in 2000 by David Zamagni, Nadia Ranocchi and Monaldo Moretti, involved in the production of their own film projects which, experimenting with new formats, often place their work on the boundary line between visual arts and performance.
